Firefox 131 brings temporary permissions, tab hover previews, text fragments, and more
Mozilla has released version 131 of its Firefox web browser, introducing several new features and enhancements. Users can now grant temporary permissions to sites, such as geolocation, which will be removed after one hour or when the tab is closed. A new tab preview feature displays a preview when hovering over background tabs, aiding in easier tab navigation.
The browser now considers previously used languages for default translation suggestions. Additionally, the ability to navigate to the search engine home page using shift-enter or shift-click when the search bar is empty has been reintroduced.
For developers, Firefox 131 supports text fragments, enabling direct linking to specific portions of text in web documents via special URL fragments. Support for Cookies Having Independent Partitioned State (CHIPS) has also been added, allowing cookies to be stored partitioned per top-level site.
Android users can now enable protection against suspected fingerprinters through custom and strict enhanced tracking protection options. Bookmarks on Android are now saved in the last used folder instead of the top-level bookmarks' folder. The update also includes several accessibility improvements and bug fixes.
