Firefox 127 released with autostart on Windows, DNS prefetching, improved security, & more

Mozilla has announced the release of Firefox 127, introducing several new features and enhancements. This update includes DNS prefetching for HTTPS documents, allowing web developers to preemptively resolve domain names for key assets. Users can now close all duplicate tabs in a window using the Close duplicate tabs command from the List all tabs widget or tab context menu.

Firefox 127 also aims to enhance security by automatically upgrading image, audio, and video HTML elements from HTTP to HTTPS if embedded within an HTTPS page. Elements that do not support HTTPS will no longer load. Additionally, for macOS and Windows users, accessing and filling stored passwords in the Firefox Password Manager (about:logins page) now requires a device sign-in, such as an operating system password or biometric login.

Windows users can set Firefox to launch automatically upon starting or restarting their computer. On Android, a new Passwords item has been added to the three-dot menu, and web content translation is now available. Notably, translation is performed locally on the device, ensuring that translated text does not leave the user's device.
