YouTube now lets users request takedown of AI-generated content mimicking them
YouTube recently introduced a policy change allowing individuals to request the takedown of AI-generated or synthetic content that mimics their face or voice. This move is an extension of YouTube's responsible AI agenda, initially outlined in November. The platform will consider various factors to determine if a removal is warranted, including whether the content is synthetic or altered, its disclosure status, and its realism or identifiability.
YouTube will also assess if the content qualifies as parody or satire and whether it involves a public figure or well-known individual in sensitive situations, such as engaging in crime, violence, or endorsing products or political candidates. Upon receiving a privacy complaint, YouTube gives the uploader 48 hours to respond. The platform generally requires first-party claims but makes exceptions for minors, vulnerable individuals, or those without internet access.
