Evernote launches new sync engine 'RENT' to boost sync speed, app startup, & note sharing
Evernote has introduced a major update to its sync engine called RENT, designed to enhance syncing speed and reliability across devices. This update significantly accelerates device-to-device syncing, making it up to three times faster. Note sharing has also improved, with shared notes appearing immediately in user accounts. Additionally, the update also results in quicker app startup times.
The RENT update replaces Evernote's legacy metadata sync process with a unified system, simplifying the release of new improvements and allowing for faster product development. This new system reduces the size of the Evernote database on devices by up to 70% and increases its speed by 20%, boosting overall app efficiency. The focus of RENT is on syncing metadata such as notes, notebooks, workspaces, tags, profiles, and sharing permissions, ensuring that all account information is current and accurate.
By replacing the previous "polling" system with one that constantly shares updates, RENT ensures real-time reflection of changes, part of Evernote's broader initiative to enhance platform reliability and stability. The unified sync system under RENT reduces product complexity and the likelihood of bugs, improving reliability for both developers and users. The update is available for all Evernote accounts using version 10.101 and up.
