YouTube Premium is getting a huge price hike in a dozen countries, sparking user backlash

YouTube Premium users across the globe are facing significant price hikes as Google increases subscription costs in over a dozen countries. This follows earlier price jumps in various regions, including the United States last summer. The latest increases vary by region, with some countries experiencing hikes between 30% to 50%. For instance, in Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy, the Family plan will rise from €18 to €26 starting November, while the individual plan will increase by €2 to €14.

Countries affected by these changes include Ireland, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, UAE, Switzerland, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Colombia, Thailand, Singapore, Norway, Sweden, Czech Republic, and Denmark. Although most Reddit reports are from European users, the price hikes also impact the Middle East, Colombia, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. YouTube had already raised its subscription prices in India by 15–20% in late August.

Those dissatisfied with YouTube's latest price hike may consider alternatives such as PeerTube and Odyssey, or Spotify, Deezer, and Apple Music for their music streaming needs.

Between the ads, propaganda, censorship, broken copyright system, selectively enforced rules, etc etc, It will be a cold day in Hell before I EVER give an evil corporation like Google/Youtube a single penny of my money.

We just had the paused ads announcement, now this? Who thought doing this so close to one another would be a good idea?

Well, YouTube has stripped the soul of uBlock with Manifest v3 and killed most Invidious instances. They'll do now what they want. So, Firefox and yt-dlp remains the way to go.

I am not surprised, premium was already to expensive just to get rid of ads. YouTube doesn't deserve my money, and I will continue to block youtube ads until my account is banned ! And then I'll create another.
