Discord enhances PC gaming with revamped game overlay and refreshed desktop app

Discord has unveiled a series of updates for its desktop app aimed at enhancing the PC gaming experience. A major highlight is the introduction of a revamped game overlay, now supporting a wider array of games with improved performance and a refreshed interface. This overlay offers a faster, more responsive experience with components now available as individual widgets, allowing for customizable placement tailored to different gaming setups. An action bar has also been added to streamline access to voice and video controls, and users can now watch friends' game streams directly within the overlay.

In addition to overlay enhancements, Discord's desktop app has undergone a lightweight refresh, incorporating more customization options and features previously exclusive to mobile. This includes new free themes, three UI density settings, and a resizable channel list. The update also centralizes voice and video controls, with clearer indicators for mic and camera status.
