GOG adds one-click mod installs for select games and pre-tested expansions
GOG has launched a one-click mod installation feature for selected games, aiming to make modding more accessible for users unfamiliar with complex setup processes. The new system pre-packs and pre-tests all supported mods to ensure they work immediately after a single click, removing the need for manual configuration or third-party mod managers.
Among the initial offerings are prominent fan-made projects such as Horn of the Abyss for Heroes of Might and Magic III, DOOM 3: Phobos, Fallout: London, a large-scale expansion set in the United Kingdom for Fallout 4, and the Unofficial Patch for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. Looking ahead, GOG lists the highly anticipated Skyblivion remake as “coming soon,” which will broaden the lineup of available mods.
While GOG promotes this as a lightweight counterpart to Steam Workshop, the feature is limited to a curated set of mods and doesn't yet offer full integration with the GOG store or GOG GALAXY client for now. Any user wishing to install unsupported mods must still do so manually. Access to these pre-tested mods requires owning the corresponding base game through GOG. The platform works with mod creators to ensure quality and integration, but without dedicated tools, updates may be slower. Users have already called for better support for mod development and delivery.
