OpenAI Codex CLI now defaults to GPT-5
OpenAI has updated the Codex CLI, making the recently released GPT-5 the default model with usage included in all ChatGPT plans and no API key required. Core components, including prompt, harness, and sandboxing logic, have been upgraded.
There is also a new on-request approval mode, allowing the model to determine when to prompt users for actions.
