Proton releases Lumo 1.1 with faster & more accurate answers and open source mobile apps

Proton has released version 1.1 of Lumo, its AI assistant, delivering faster and more thorough answers with better awareness of recent events. Building on the foundation set a month ago, this update allows Lumo to serve a broader range of use cases including answering questions, generating code, and performing research more effectively.

Following the upgrade, Lumo now produces more accurate responses and greatly reduces the need for corrections or additional follow-up, especially for complex requests. During evaluation, the team recorded a 170% improvement in the assistant’s contextual understanding for queries based on user documents and data. Lumo’s ability to understand requests and generate correct code has increased by 40%. Meanwhile, its skill at planning, selecting the right tools such as web search, and guiding users through complex multistep problems has improved by over 200%.

In addition to performance boosts, version 1.1 makes the web client, along with both the iOS and Android mobile apps, fully open source. Proton has also published the Lumo security model, outlining how zero access encryption ensures that no one, including Proton, can access users’ conversation history.

They still hide what AI model they are using and it appears to be smaller models.

models* But yes there stack is pretty opaque for a "fully open source AI assistant", apparently it's due to licensing with the model they are using. I have asked Lumo itself about these and yeah it doesn't sound that open to me
