OpenAI is officially bringing Ads to ChatGPT and announcing a cheaper "Go" tier worldwide

OpenAI is finally pulling the plug and will soon start introducing Ads in ChatGPT for US users on the free tier and its new cheaper $8 plan, ChatGPT Go. Go first launched as a pilot in India last August and has since rolled out to more countries, with OpenAI now expanding it more broadly, positioning it as a middle option between the free plan and the $20 per month Plus tier.

ChatGPT Go is aimed at people who want more access to OpenAI’s fast GPT 5.2 Instant model, offering 10 times higher rate limits than the free tier for messages, file uploads, and image generation, though OpenAI has not shared exact daily caps for uploads or images. For comparison, free users currently get 10 GPT 5.2 messages every five hours before switching to a smaller model, while Plus users get up to 160 GPT 5.2 messages every three hours. Go is also expected to extend ChatGPT’s memory and context window beyond the free plan, but OpenAI has not disclosed the exact limits.

More importantly, Ads are expected to appear as clearly labeled sponsored products or services below conversations, and OpenAI says they will not affect the chatbot’s answers. The company says ads will not show up when users are discussing sensitive topics like health, mental state, or current politics, and they will not be shown to anyone under 18. Users will be able to disable ad personalization, clear the data used for sponsored content, and dismiss ads, while Plus and higher tiers will remain ad free.

ChatGPT was never supposed to be consumer product. It mutated into one, but it was not designed for consumers and ads. In case somebody does not know it yet, ChatGPT was designed as brainstorm app for executives. And if it stayed that was, it might have been profitable. But it will not be profitable from ads. Subscriptions maybe, but not ads.

Yeah, so that's your great plan Sam to give Oracle the promised $300B, ads?

No because even YouTube doesn't get more than $40B a year from ads, and has 3 times more users than your products.

So stop asking GPT, Sam, and use what's left of your brain!
