Claude can now control your computer to automate tasks and workflows in Cowork and Code
Anthropic has introduced a new capability that allows Claude to be enabled for using your computer to complete tasks in Claude Cowork and Claude Code. When the tools required for a task are not directly accessible, Claude can point, click, and navigate your macOS desktop, operating the browser, mouse, keyboard, and running developer tools with no setup required. The system prioritizes connectors to services like Slack or Google Calendar when possible; only if connectors are unavailable will it directly control the local device. Explicit user permission is requested before each access, and the user can stop the process at any time.
Following this functional expansion, several safety measures have been implemented. Anthropic’s system automatically scans activations to detect prompt injection attempts and enforces application restrictions to minimize risk. Some apps remain inaccessible by default for added security.
Expanding use cases, this feature makes Dispatch more effective by permitting Claude to perform computer tasks while you’re away, such as generating morning briefings, editing code, running tests, and managing 3D printing workflows. Currently in research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers, the computer automation feature is available exclusively on macOS and integrates especially well with Dispatch, enabling task assignments directly from a phone.
