Vivaldi 7.9 introduces customizable full-screen mode, follower tabs, and Mail improvements

Vivaldi 7.9 has launched as the latest update to the Chromium-based web browser, bringing several user interface and workflow enhancements. Leading this release is UI Auto-hide, a feature that allows users to conceal key interface elements such as the tab bar, address bar, panel, status bar, and bookmarks bar. When enabled, these elements remain out of view to maximize content space, but will reappear instantly as soon as the cursor touches any screen edge. Users can fine-tune which interface elements to hide and can now maintain interface accessibility in full-screen mode.

Building on these interface changes, Vivaldi 7.9 introduces the Follower Tab feature. By right-clicking any link and selecting Open Link as Tiled Follower Tab, users can view new content side by side with the original page. Subsequent links opened from the original tab continue to appear in the follower tab, enabling efficient tracking of related resources or threads.

Alongside these browsing features, Vivaldi Mail receives several improvements. The mail composer can now open in its own window, and switching between rich text and plain text requires only a single toggle. Memory usage in the mail list has been further optimized, improving performance for users with large inboxes. Additionally, there is now a new option to save selected messages locally as files.

While UI Auto-hide is neat idea, it has some (perhaps not fully thought through) problems...Namely, if you have the panel window set on the same side as the scrool bar, good luck trying to click on the bar to drag it...you have a few pixel wide margin you can do so before the panel automatically pops up and takes focus...

Same goes for the horizontal scroll bar if the website is too wide for your screen, as in that case, the status bar gets in the way.

Apart of an European and green, it's by far the most advanced and user centric Browser out there

Edge had the "follower tab" thing in their split-screen mode and it was my favorite feature. Unfortunately, Microsoft remembered they're not supposed to be putting out good, working products and immediately started screwing up Edge.
