We’re all grown up now! AlternativeTo is turning 18 today 🎈🎂

Hey everyone, we just wanted to stop by and share the crazy news that AlternativeTo is turning 18 years old today 🥳 That is a bit wild to think about, but it technically means we are old enough to drink in quite a few parts of the world, right? So let’s raise a glass! 🍻 What started quite a while ago on a day like this with Markus and Ola in Sweden began as a simple idea rooted in a shared passion for software and a desire to help people find better options instead of settling for what they already had. Today, it has grown into a community used by millions of people around the world, not just to find apps and services, but also to share their love and knowledge of technology, and we’re really grateful for that.

We all know how much new tech, especially AI, has changed things over the last couple of years and will most definitely continue to shape the way we interact with the world. While that has undoubtedly affected us too, we are still building, still improving, and still looking for new ways to make the site more useful for more people, including recent updates like our more detailed open source licensing filters. We are also actively sharing really cool content on our social media channels, including news, hidden gem apps, some of our favorite lists, and more, and we plan to gradually expand it to bring more type content that I'm personally sure many of you will enjoy, so we would love for you to follow along on X, Mastodon, Threads, Bluesky and LinkedIN if you have not already.

Most of all, this anniversary is really about this amazing community. To everyone who has been with us for years, contributing, suggesting, editing, and helping make AlternativeTo better, and to everyone who joined more recently, thank you for being part of it 💙
