Parrot 7.3 adds CPU-optimized packages, menu system in Go, Vagrant boxes and updated tools

Parrot 7.3 is now available, marking the latest release of this Debian-based Linux distribution with a focus on security, privacy, and development. This version is powered by the Linux 7.0.9 kernel, which offers updates in hardware compatibility and system features.

With this update, Parrot now provides an opt-in repository of recompiled packages that target modern x86-64 CPU features. These packages, available alongside the standard archive, are included only if they offer measurable performance improvements, addressing the need for broader compatibility while delivering better performance on recent hardware.

Alongside backend changes, the new version introduces a menu system written in Go. Both parrot-exec and launcher-updater have been replaced with Go-based binaries, removing shell script dependencies. This redesign creates a user interface where all tools are visible and can be installed with a single click.

Following these updates, Parrot 7.3 also ships official Vagrant boxes for the Home and Security editions on AMD64. This addition allows security professionals to stand up reproducible ParrotOS environments with ease. Firefox now opens to a custom start page built with Vite, featuring integrated search (with DuckDuckGo, Qwant, and Google), recent articles, and documentation without collecting user data. The release also includes numerous updated packages across the distribution.
