Caffeine for Windows

If you have problems with your PC locking or going to sleep, caffeine will keep it awake. It works by simulating a keypress once every 59 seconds, so your machine thinks you're still working at the keyboard, so won't lock the screen or activate the screensaver.

The app works perfect. The other comments are very old. Current version, as of now, is v1.97 - April 2021. I have been using it for a year without issues.

Sometimes it doesn't work on Windows 10 (November 2019 Update). Computer still goes to sleep while Caffeine is active.

unfortunately, the program does not know how to work with running processes.

Cannot find this anywhere: does Caffeine have a set runtime? Will it turn itself off after (8, 10, 12, 20, etc) hours? Or, does it run indefinitely until I close it or shut the computer off?

Very unfriendly with Git Bash and other console windows, because every few seconds inserts "~" character.

Yes, the default method of Caffeine sending a virtual F15 key press can impact some applications. Besides the Minnty terminal (the terminal Git Bash is using), Emacs as well will indicate receiving the F15 key. However Caffeine provides a solution to this i.e. use the -stes commandline parameter.

This has got to be the worst user experience possible when knowing it's OS X original counterpart.

  • it fails to run if you just download it *
  • the requirement of the Visual C++ redistributable is undocumented on the downloads page
  • no configuration gui (making it only slightly worse than No Doze)

Try Sleep Preventer instead. Perfect.

Caffeine just does not work reliably for me under Windows 10. Sometimes it prevents my PC from locking; other times, it does not. I've tried the various options, including -useshift, but nothing helps.

Ginseng is the only alternative I've found that works 100%, but it is absolutely feature devoid.
