This web app offers many features built into the spreadsheet UI without requiring any extensions. I like it.
The problem is the lack or inconvenience of frequently used core features like AutoFill. For example, you set the A column property to Date. Enter today's date in the first cell. You want to enter dates consecutively in the remaining rows. In Google Sheets and MS Excel, you simply click the dot in the bottom right corner of the cell and drag it to the desired rows. What is Grist?
Grist combines the best of spreadsheets, databases and app builders. Using a familiar spreadsheet interface, organize your information as a relational database and build drag-and-drop dashboards in minutes.
Make the most of your data by ensuring it is well-structured and stored in one place. No duplication, no spreadsheet-wrangling, no merging documents.
Collaborate in real time, protecting your data with custom access rules that control permissions down to the cell. Let everyone work from the same data without compromising privacy or stability.
Sign up for a free team account or host Grist yourself – either way, your data is always yours.

Comments and Reviews
An impressive and ever developing app that gives you a host of ways to display, arrange and analyse your data. A desktop version is now available and so far as I can see it has no restrictions on the number of records. The free version on-line restricts you to 5000.
Great middle-ground between a spreadsheet and a relational DB:
You will need to practice a bit to understand the logic and possibilities of the app, especially if you come from spreadsheets. Though, there are a lot of resources available and the community is welcoming.
Where it could be improved:
Still, the repo is accepting contributions and the community is vibrant. So I hope the app will continue to grow for the years to come!
