Inkscape 1.3.1 is out with two new features, updated translations, and over 70 bug fixes
Inkscape, the renowned free and open-source vector graphics editor, has rolled out its latest version, 1.3.1. This new release comes packed with fresh features, over 70 bug fixes, and 16 enhanced user interface translations.
Among the numerous bugs addressed, many pertained to issues causing crashes or freezes, particularly those impacting PDF import and Live Path Effects. This rectification is expected to enhance the software's stability significantly.
Inkscape 1.3.1 introduces two new features aimed at improving user experience. One offers the ability to disable snapping to grid lines while maintaining snapping to grid intersections, offering greater flexibility in design. The other provides the option to split text into individual characters, preserving the kerning or letter distances, thereby facilitating more detailed text editing.
The software's Shape Builder tool has been refined and now generates the correct number of nodes for each shape. The Layers dialog has seen improvements as well. Activating a layer no longer necessitates a double click to enter the layer on the canvas to work within it. Users will also notice that layers no longer auto-expand in the Layers dialog upon activation, and the behavior when deleting and moving layers has been enhanced.
Inkscape 1.3.1 has also made right-clicking more intuitive. Now, the action applies the change to the selected object instead of the group it belongs to.
Finally, the software has made strides in converting text objects to a path, with multiple improvements in this area introduced in the new version. This update will likely make it easier for users to manipulate and convert text objects within their designs.
