As of 9/5/24, all download links and forum registration result in "502" errors. Hopefully, the developer pays attention and fixes this.

Excellent program. I used this to design a couple svg's for a project I was working on and it was very easy to use.

An interesting app that is only held back by the lack of a good UI and some key functions.

A bit rough around the edges, but still a good option.

Very interesting app for designers that want to do classic vector graphics. Unfortunately, if you dive more into SVGs, you'll realize Inkscape handles them in a very opinionated way. A lot of SVG functionalities are badly implemented, or not at all, which makes SVGs look different in app and in browsers (for once most browsers are consistent with their rendering). If you happen to know SVG code and want to write lines by yourself, be aware that Inkscape might not know what you're doing. Worse even, it will rewrite the entire file in its own style in a move that resembles the worst days of Web development (remember FrontPage ?). Most intriguing is that I make this comment in 2025, but I could have written the exact same thing in 2015. Honestly, I should have, those issues are well past due. Can we do something about it ?

Whether you are a beginner (or especially if you are a beginner) or a professional, Inkscape has most, if not all, of what you need, including features not available in paid apps. Oh, and it's Free and Open Source!

What is Inkscape?

Inkscape is an Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.

It supports many advanced SVG features (markers, clones, alpha blending, etc.) and great care is taken in designing a streamlined interface. It is very easy to edit nodes, perform complex path operations, trace bitmaps and much more. We also aim to maintain a thriving user and developer community by using open, community-oriented development.
