Notesnook 3.4 brings an Inbox API, enhanced desktop security, unique URL slugs, and more

Notesnook 3.4 is now available, marking a key update for this open source and zero-knowledge note-taking application. Leading this release, the Inbox API enables users to accept notes from third-party apps and automation platforms such as Zapier and IFTTT. Content received this way remains fully encrypted, visible only after syncing, offering secure workflow expansion. This API also lets users feed in emails, web content, RSS feeds, or custom integrations directly as notes.

Alongside these extensibility gains, the desktop app now features a strengthened security model. It is fully sandboxed and isolated, mitigating the risk of remote code execution vulnerabilities. Following the security enhancements, Notesnook also updates its publishing workflow: every newly published note now receives a unique URL slug, providing cleaner and more manageable sharing links. Republishing a note updates its slug, while older published works remain unchanged.

Extending usability, both desktop and mobile apps now support nn:// deep links for notes, notebooks, tags, and colors, allowing direct navigation from external sources. In addition, the importer tool adds support for importing notes from ColorNote and UpNote, broadening transition options for new users and implementing several reliability improvements.
