Well, it isn't as complete and funny as WoW, but, considering the HD memory that it takes, is a good game. It also has jobs, manufacturing, and many quests to do, but after some time playing it, I just got tired of doing all over again. I played it, and, for me, it's a good alternative for World of Warcraft, just not for too many time. (I've played both WoW and V&H, btw)

PW is a decent alternative to WoW. If you're willing to delve into the "free to play ~ pay to win" kind of game (where you're either going to become a cash shopper yourself, or you grind your arse off for good stuffs (no lifer the game), or you just don't worry about how ub3r you are and play "just for fun"!

That being said I was always a single player gamer until my GF (at the time) was talking about going back to WoW. I was against the monthly sub so I actually found PW as a "free" alternative. It was definitely a good alternative in my mind (still) BUT ~ I will (at the same time) concede that the monthly sub is cheaper on the gamers end. There was at least one year where PWE made more money than Blizzard (despite being NOWHERE near as popular/known) due to the difference in business model!

All that being said, I cannot speak to how the experience would be if you joined up as a single player as I went into this with pretty much all my friends playing with me! So, another tip; get all your friends to play with you because it'll probably be much better than joining up by yourself and attempting to make "friends" in the game! As with most online interactions, it can get pretty toxic when it comes to "strangers"! But I have also seen my fair share of awesome/helpful people in this game too!

All in all; TL;DR ~ Yes, PW is a good alternative to WoW.
