Its essentially 7-Zip with the main difference being an attempt to bring it in line with the modern Windows design, which still needs lots of UI work and refinement.

NanaZip is a fork of 7zip that is better integrated with modern version of Windows and supports newer features such as Windows 11 context menu & dark theme. It's not really that different than 7zip otherwise.

7zip developer is too stubborn to implement the new integrations, so they just created their own fork. Now this is the power of open source.

It uses the same engine and compression of 7zip, so if you care more about that than the GUI, this is the best.

lz4 is a command line compressor for a single compression format: lz4. 7-Zip in contrast features a GUI and supports a buch of different archive formats and compression algorithms.

LZ4 is an amazing program, don't get me wrong. It's best option for compression of a data stream with zero performance loss. However, it is a command line compression stream program (and library) for compressing a single file, not an archive creation program.

Not really discontinued, just not updated in 5 years.

Since there have been no security issues, there is really nothing to update a simple utility like this.

Works good for it's purpose as one of the best compression standards out there, although lack of widespread adoption of the protocol does limit it's usefulness to internal use.

I recommend 7z or zip for files for others due to exceeding the adoption and familiarity threshold that people know how to open the archive.

KGB Archiver is the compression tool with an unbelievably high compression rate. Unfortunately, in spite of its powerful compression rate, it has high hardware requirements (I recommend processor with 1,5GHz clock and 256MB of RAM as an essential minimum).
