It handles dozens of formats (included RAR5), it got also a stable x64 version, and the compression time (or rate) improves with every release. I love it!

This was my Windows reaction, 5 stars. Now as a noob Linux Mint user I say that I'd really LOVE to see a GUI version for my new platform. :-/

To be clear, it can decompress RAR files, but not create them.

That's exactly how software should be. Simple and straightforward. It supports many file formats, and I like it better than WinRAR or WinZip.

I'm a fairly new Windows user here. It might sound weird, but I absolutely love using 7-Zip, even with the knowledge that Windows has compression baked.

7-zip is a no frills application that is very light on system resources. The 7z format has a very high compression ratio, so there's no need to purchase a proprietary app like WinRAR. Oh, and on top of that, 7-zip uses unRAR to read RAR files.

I mean, it's open source, what else is there to it. I've been using 7-zip for years and it's never done me wrong.

Just one wish list item for me... please support dark mode. :-)

7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio.

You can use 7-Zip on any computer, including a computer in a commercial organization. You don't need to register or pay for 7-Zip. The main features of 7-Zip
