Aero Dock

Aero Dock is a free and open-source desktop dock for Windows inspired by the glassy Aero look of the Windows Vista and Windows 7 era. It’s meant to be a more visual alternative to the standard Windows taskbar, while still being useful for everyday desktop use. Open apps can show real live window previews, and the dock uses glass and transparency effects that fit naturally with the desktop instead of looking like a flat launcher pasted on top of it. Aero Dock can also pull colors from your current wallpaper so the dock matches the rest of your setup. If you want to lean further into the old-school desktop look, there are optional visual effects like rain, snow, and bubbles. It also includes built-in system controls, so some common Windows actions can be accessed directly from the dock without needing a separate widget or utility. The main focus is customization and bringing back some of the personality that older versions of Windows had. It isn’t trying to recreate Windows 7 exactly. It takes the Aero-style glass, reflections, transparency, and desktop effects and turns them into something that still works on a modern Windows setup. Aero Dock is completely free and open source, with the source code available on GitHub. There’s no paid tier or subscription.
