What is As of Now?

Most demo data tools are a form you fill in and export from once. You get a file, and a month later every date in it is old, so you either rebuild it by hand or regenerate and get fresh dates on a completely different set of records.

As of Now saves the recipe instead of the output. That recipe is a model made up of your tables, their fields, and how they relate to each other. Dates are set relative to now rather than pinned to a calendar: "in the last 90 days," or "7 to 10 days after ordered_at." Generate it in March and again in November and both come out current, with the same ids, the same names and the same amounts. Whatever your demo script or your test expects is still there.

The data holds together across tables, too. Fields can depend on other fields, so contacts are never dated before the customer they belong to and nothing ships before it was ordered. Cities always match their regions and postal codes.
