Absolutely EXCELLENT! Install WordPress (takes 5 minutes) and install BuddyPress (takes 3 minutes after that). Now you've got a website with user-interaction: messages, forums, walls, feeds, etc.
Excellent, highly customizable; has full integration with WordPress (and the WordPress back-end), easy to use and edit. I searched for a CMS that would allow users to interact publicly and privately - this was the best I've found.
It promises to have everything you need for social interacting, like groups, friendships, posts and cascaded comments. BuddyPress as a WordPress plugin is easy to install, but I found the configuration far too tricky.
BuddyPress is chaotic. Itr creates pages which have to be linked to other WordPress pages. Groups and members cannot be hidden completely from guests, at least I was unable to configure this. When you are logged in, there appear hints in the top bar, but clicking onto it leads to a page that cannot be found. Etc. etc., more trouble than satisfaction.
I prefer a standalone solution like Vanilla or Elgg.
