Simple, no BS file hosting that's great for many different file types. On the downsides, the UI is a bit crap and it doesn't remember your filenames so sorting through uploaded files is a bit difficult. Additionally, it requires login to delete files, yet forgets my login after almost every visit so I have to be careful of not uploading anything sensitive while logged out.
Due to its youthful status, I would not trust Catbox with any files you may wish to keep several years down the line - many small file hosts go down after a year or two due to costs. But it works well at what it does and allows many more file types than other hosts (SVG, for instance) which can really come in handy for certain projects. I hope Catbox sticks around for a while.
Catbox isn't up all the time, and the UI is a little clunky, but I've become used to it. And I am only reviewing, not complaining: Catbox is free to use and probably the work of only one person or a tiny team, so any perceived shortcomings are easy to forgive. I use Catbox mostly to embed images on my blog, and share photo albums with friends. I used to use Photobucket and Imgur, but those changed for the worse. So I have been floating among various hosts for many a moon.
Decent file host do not recommend it for hotlinking 15mb+ gifs or AVIF AVIFS. Upload speed is fine might just a tad slow download speed way to slow to download is like 700kbps to 800kbps, so if you upload a 40mb+ gif it will take 2 to 4 min load it that is too slow. For any file image or video host upload speed should never be 3x to 4x faster than dowload speed it should the other way around.
It really works well. perfect for sharing direct links
What the heck does "weaboo" even mean!?
Weaboo is an anthroponym for people who are super into anime and manga, and typically Japanese culture in general. I believe its use here is intended to mean that the owner of the site considers themselves to be part of that group and they are also his target userbase. I suppose all of the rest of us are just lucky that they don't check credentials at the door, hehe.
Thank you, Peter, for taking my query seriously and providing a comprehensive, succinct and satisfying answer. I guess I must have already stepped on the wee-little toes of one of these baby-boos as I can spy a downvote :eyeroll:
Catbox do not allow to upload docx files.
why are most of these url shortening and not file hosting
What do you mean? Catbox does URL shortening as well as file hosting.
Oh, did you mean the alternatives being URL shorteners? I don't know why that is the case, since I think most people would indeed use Catbox for the file hosting aspect. I guess we could put a few image hosts as alternatives.
