Probably the best XMPP/Jabber app for Android at present. Pity it doesn't exist on other platforms such as iOS. For now, Snikket seems to be the only option there.

Cheogram is a fork of Conversations and is a really good companion app to JMP.chat. It's quite literally just Conversations with some additional features to manage your JMP.chat account.

However, as someone who runs their own XMPP server instead of using JMP's Snikket, I have had issues sending images via Cheogram but not with Conversations.

My biggest gripe with Cheogram is that it's very cumbersome to add new contacts via phone number, which is kind of the point of JMP as a service. You have to add phone numbers as a mock Jabber ID (i.e. +123456789@cheogram.com) instead of the software simply recognizing that you're adding a phone number.

I hope this bit of friction is fixed in the future. Otherwise it's a great XMPP client.

Together with JMP it offers a very cheap and anonymous way to have a phone number(s). Or use the app by itself to have encrypted XMPP chat options. Been using Cheogram & JMP for about 6 months now, very great app and service.

What is Cheogram?

Chat on the Jabber network (XMPP protocol); focus on features for gateway users The Cheogram Android app allows you to join a worldwide communication network. It especially focuses on features useful to users who want to contact those on other networks as well, such as SMS-enabled phone numbers.

Based on the app Conversations, but with unique features:

Messages with both media and text, including animated media
Unobtrusive display of subject lines, where present
Links to known contacts are shown with their name
Show timestamps for calls
Missed call notifications
Integrates with gateways' add contact flows
When using a gateway to the phone network, integrate with the native Android Phone app
Address book integration
