What is DocuCommit?

DocuCommit is a self-hosted documentation and knowledge base platform that keeps content as plain Markdown files with YAML frontmatter inside a Git repository you own. There is no database: every page is a file, and the page history is native Git history.

It ships as two surfaces. A desktop editor for Windows, macOS and Linux lets writers create and edit pages, resolve merge conflicts in a three-pane view, and commit, pull and push without using a terminal. A read-only server, distributed as a Docker image, renders the same repository as an internal or public documentation site with full-text search.

Features include WYSIWYG Markdown editing, draw.io and Mermaid diagrams, comments and @mentions stored in sidecar files, Git-native revision history, syntax highlighting, full-text search, and export to Markdown, HTML and PDF.

Because the content is ordinary Markdown in Git, it stays readable by any editor, script or LLM agent, and the documentation can be taken elsewhere at any time.

DocuCommit is commercial software with a 14-day trial. Individual, Pro, Team and Enterprise plans are available, and readers are always free.
