Try checking "Video - Fix Parent Window", it works for me. DXWnd is the only application well maintained and with powerful and all round features, there is not a good enough alternative I'm afraid.
DxWnd is one of my go-to examples of an unassuming but impressive piece of open-source software. Started simply by someone wanting to be able to play fullscreen games in a window, today it's an incredibly feature-rich secret weapon to get older games to run on newer versions of Windows at all. Activate "Extended mode" and you'll be battered with four rows of tabs, most of which containing dozens of options. And I love it! This is how functional power-user software is supposed to be. Not trying to hide the complexity and dumb things down, breaking a variety of stuff in the process; but giving you full control over its features. It also comes with over 2000 profiles for specific games, with all the needed settings pre-configured.
Yesterday, I got the notoriously difficult to run "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire" to run on my Windows 10 system, and almost every fix I needed was available in DxWnd. Far from just fixing the launch problems and graphics issues, it also allowed me to fix the game's CDDA music and the speed it runs at. The only bug I needed an additional tool for (DDrawCompat) was a Z-ordering issue. But the developer of DxWnd already discussed plans to figure this out and add it to DxWnd.
If you're into playing older Windows games, there's no way around DxWnd. There are many other great tools that can fix a lot of issues (dgVoodoo2, DXGL, DxWnd, WineD3D, DxWrapper, …), and those are awesome as well, especially because, if they're enough to get a game to work, they're extremely simple to use. But if nothing else helps and a game just keep giving you a hard time, DxWnd will come to your rescue!
