License fee is fair I guess and PER active connection, not per user. Means you can add many users, but only need as much licenses as simultaneous server connections. It has automated classification/categorization for scanned and imported documents. Runs as server installation, as well as docker image. Next to the extensions for MS Office, LibreOffice etc, it brings also a PDF Printer which allows you to categorize & print directly to the DMS. The company offers also modules for Workflow-Management, Process-automation, Mail-archiving.
Nevertheless, there's also some major problems with it:
if you need support, you have to buy "support-hours". That means, if something doesn't work, even if it is something that absolutely SHOULD in the licensed version you bought, they won't help you until you pay BEFORE the problem is even resolved. If it is a bug or something caused by their software, it doesn't matter, you'll be at their mercy to get any refund.
the software doesn't save the PDFs in its native format, but disassembles them and saves them into some proprietary format into their database. Even if you make a complete database backup, you won't find any PDFs in there. The only way to get your documents back, is to manually export them via the client software.
This disqualifies it IMHO for any serious use. Losing the classification data, metadata, etc., in case of a major problem is bad, but not as bad as losing the whole document. If you can't connect the clients to your server, where the backend runs and the data is stored, or the backend is somehow corrupted, and in case they can't also help with their shady support strategies, your documents will basically be lost. You'll have to have to have a good backup strategy to not only be able to set up a new installation and restore the data from the backup, but also (just in case) to store away the documents itself in their native format somehow, which kind of defeats the purpose of such an DMS in my opinion.
@hellih I am checking out DMS software for private users for some weeks now. I completely agree with you: when it comes to support, ecoDMS is the worst I have found. How could a private user afford these support fees, and you have to buy them in advance. 2 x 15 minutes = 2 answers to your email = € 50? One might think they want private users to buy their software, after that they do not want to be bothered by them...
Product website does not show any way to download or use it "Free for personal use." Users must pay 89.00 EUR for the "Personal Edition."
