Ellipsus

I tried it. Moved my major projects over and started trying to use it: big mistake. The user interface is a headache of unnecessarily nested, hidden menus, with layout shifts on desktop and badly-optimized screen use on mobile. The support team is too small to handle their volume of support tickets. And even though the product is still in beta, they do not appear interested in user feedback about their beta product. I went into trying Ellipsus willing and eager, and all I got was a headache and a "Don't let anyone know you're unhappy with the interface" impression from their support team. So I'm here to let everyone know that it isn't worth your time.

It offers the thing I missed most about Google Docs, it allows to easily share one's work with collaborators (with different permission levels for editing, commenting, or reading only). It has a chat feature for the people involved. Most importantly, it has a really cool Draft system where you can create a copy of the text and change it as much as you want without losing the original version, and later compare the two side by side. You may then merge the draft into the original document if you want. My one big critique is that the interface is in English only. The site has spell checking for other languages besides English, but navigating it would be difficult for people who don't speak it. Another smaller critique is the lack of a downloadable program for your computer (though that may not be as much of a problem for some), but most importantly the lack of a mobile app. They do provide instructions for how to work around it with your mobile browser, but it'd be good if they developed their own app at some point. A very good service all in all, and it's completely free.
