Probably the best program for obtaining perfect rips of your CDs. However, configuration must be customized for your hardware and the process is quite involved and is definitely not intuitive for the beginner. Finding a guide is strongly recommended.

It may be feature-rich with lots of tweakable settings, but the (probably .NET) base is totally broken. alt-tab does not work, always unresponsive, etc. What good is a free and feature rich tool if it just won't work? Correct. Use fre:ac instead.

Highly advised tool with a lot of customisation. If you want a quick version without thinking about all the options, then Easy Audio Copy is a great alternative.

I discovered this free software about 15 years go. Like the name already suggests it claimed to be possible to rip the music from audio CDs as an exact duplicate. That interested me, however I listened very critically to hear if there really is a difference next to other ripping software

To my pleasant surprise I there was. Since then I only use Exact Audio Copy to rip music CDs.

Perhaps it's not the easiest software, but it's easy enough.

EAC is used to convert the tracks on standard audio CDs to .wav files, which can then be transcoded into formats such as MP3, Ogg Vorbis, WavPack, and FLAC using external encoders.

EAC also includes a small wave editor that has some neat functions that could be very handy when handling extracted audio files. As a restriction only CD-compliant uncompressed, 16 bit, 44.1 kHz stereo samples files can be used.

It supports freedb, AccurateRip (automatically compare your copy with rips from other people) and can automatically create Cue Sheets, with all gaps, track attributes, ISRC, and CD-Text included.

With other audio grabbers you usually need to listen to every grabbed wave because they only do jitter correction. Scratched CDs read on CD-ROM drives often produce distortions. But listening to every extracted audio track is a waste of time. Exact Audio Copy conquer these problems by making use of several technologies like multi-reading with verify and AccurateRip.
