Even though the app hasn't been updated for a while, it saved me again in 2025 on a Windows 11 machine with a Raspberry Pi SD-card that didn't boot anymore.
Outright does not work; as in this application does literally nothing. It changes nothing. It does not function.
This filesystem driver will not read your Linux partition if it is formated as 64-bit filesystem (As almost all distro installers do nowadays) unless you convert it to 32-bit filesystem with resize2fs -s command. 32-bit filesystem has 16TB partition limit if you have those new hard disks greater than 16TB then you have to make multiple partitions. It seams that it is not actively developed anymore.
Tried Ext2Fsd on fully up to date windows 10 and I won't recommend this app. It works, but its driver or service causes conflicts with windows drivers. Especially freezes NVidia drivers and makes system shutdown take a long time.
Just tried this myself. Win10 seems to be very stingy about enforcing driver digital signatures. There is a post here about manually mounting, but seems like it would be a hassle. Haven't tried it myself. If you only need read support, I've found that
Ext2Read (Ext2Explore) still works in Win10, even though development has ceased.
The only reviews I found were from 2013, and not exactly very motivating. So I'm hoping things are looking better by now.
I use this program so I can share an ext3 formatted TrueCrypt volume on an external drive between Windows and Linux clients. It works great. The volume manager utility will not see the TrueCrypt drive but the Windows filesystem driver allow me to view and access files on the ext3 partition just fine.
