I find it so annoying when there is a video on YouTube that I want to watch without all the surrounding gubbins. Flixgrab gets round that by downloading the video directly to your computer.
Flixgrab is very easy to use. Just copy the video link from YouTube or wherever, hit paste on the software interface, then click on download. It will download to your video folder in the same quality as it is on YouTube. Plus you can download the subtitles. As well as YouTube you can download from Facebook, Vimeo, Twitter, Spotify and even Netflix, Disney & Amazon Prime. You can also set video quality individually which is very useful. Either 1080p if you want high quality or lower if you are short of space on your hard drive.
There are other downloaders but they all seem to charge. The great thing about Flixgrab is that it is completely free for personal use. I spend a considerable amount of time off-grid and have zero interest in dealing with Netflix and their nonsense limit for timing out downloaded TV shows and Movies. For those that don't know, Netflix restricts downloaded media to 7 days unless you reconnect to the service. They also limit the video to being played on only the device it was downloaded to. So, downloaded it on your laptop and want to watch it on your phone? Too bad. Want to download it to watch it on your Macbook? No such luck, you can only do it on a Windows laptop.
FlixGrab gets around all of this. You grab the watch link for the video you want to watch and paste it into FlixGrab and it queues it up for you. You can select the quality of each video individually, or set a global default.
My favorite feature of FlixGrab is that if you paste the watch link to a single episode, you can queue up the entire series with a single click.
I love being able to download my shows and movies once and use them whenever and wherever I want. If it weren't for Flixgrab, I would have gotten rid of my Netflix subscription already.
Perfect replacement for PlayOn, which no longer allows (me to) record anything. Allows up to 10 parallel recordings, capture of subtitles (which PlayOn never could), and full 1080p resolution plus Dolby Digital Surround Audio 5.1. Perfect for my needs.
