This seems pretty cool it was easy to set up and the PR view is nice to not have to go to github. Issues could use the same timeline please

I like it for the ability to manage an arsenal of my github tools in a desktop app. Loads faster than a browser with githubs ui.

What is GitDesktop?

GitDesktop is a free, open-source, cross-platform Git client for Windows, macOS, and Linux that brings the entire Git workflow into a single native application. Beyond staging changes, browsing history, managing branches, and viewing diffs, it lets you work with GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket pull requests, code reviews, CI pipelines, issues, discussions, and releases without leaving the app.

Built with Tauri and React, GitDesktop emphasizes performance, reliability, and local-first workflows. Risky Git operations are designed to be recoverable through features like an operation journal, recoverable discards, merge previews, interactive rebase, worktree management, and tools for recovering lost work.

AI features are completely optional. You can generate commit messages and pull request descriptions, run AI-assisted code reviews and security audits, or delegate coding tasks to external agents such as Claude, Codex, Copilot, or compatible local models through Ollama. Users bring their own AI provider and credentials, which remain under their control and are stored in the operating system's secure credential store. AI can also be disabled entirely for a traditional Git experience.

GitDesktop also includes first-class support for GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket, Jira Cloud integration, GitHub Actions and GitLab Pipelines, local pull requests, an integrated task runner and terminal, a command palette, and an MCP server that allows external AI tools to interact with repositories through a configurable permission model. It is licensed under Apache 2.0 and is developed as an independent open-source project.
