What is GitIgnore Doctor?

GitIgnore Doctor is a small Python CLI for reviewing and auditing .gitignore rules. It can explain why a file is ignored, show what an individual ignore rule affects, and audit a repository for potentially missing, unused, or unusually broad rules. It also supports JSON output for automation and a CI mode for use in pipelines.

The main design choice is to use Git itself as the source of truth for ignore behavior rather than reimplementing Git's matching logic. The analysis layer is deliberately conservative and reports findings for review rather than automatically modifying .gitignore.

The project is currently at v0.1.0, with 91 passing tests, GitHub Actions CI, and an MIT license.
