What is Gtk-Stream?

Gtk-Stream is a tool that takes on its standard input a XML description of what your application should do (spawn a window, add/remove a widget, change a property, add a stylesheet, ...), while outputting events on its standard output.

The main improvement of Gtk-Stream compared to other similar tools is that it allows the underlying application (usually a shell script) to react to events in a window while the window is visible. Thus, it achieves a perfect separation of concerns between the graphical features (handled by GTK-Stream) and the behaviour of the application (handled by whatever scripting language you like)
