Jrnl is a great way to take and manage notes.

The best way to save quick thoughts without having to open any application. As I'm a developer, I work a lot in Terminal, so there is nothing more convenient than split the Terminal window (or open another instance), type jrnl along with my note, press ctrl+d and get back to my work. jrnl has a built-in encryption (which is great) and supports timestamps (like last sunday or at 8pm, or friday at breakfast), tags (like @Marcus, @DeadSec, @San-Francisco), favorites (like last sunday *). You can also see the existing entries, edit them, list journals (you can have different journals for different purposes, like "work" or "family") and import an entry content directly from a file. All these cool things you can do without leaving the command-line. All the notes are saved in one file, making it easier to manage and export your entries. Export can be performed in text, markdown or json formats.
