What is Mio: AI Language Tutor?

Mio is a mobile language-learning app for iOS and Android built around a personal AI tutor. It covers 13 languages - English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian and Hindi - and is designed for short daily sessions of about 10 minutes.

What sets it apart from tap-and-match apps is Talk: a live, unscripted voice conversation with an AI tutor that listens, corrects grammar and pronunciation as you speak, and adapts to your CEFR level. Scenarios cover everyday situations such as ordering at a restaurant, job interviews, travel and business. The tutor remembers earlier sessions and follows up on the mistakes you actually made.

Five practice modes:

  • Talk: live voice conversation with the AI tutor, using neural voices (Premium)
  • Quiz: adaptive exercises including fill-in-the-blank, conjugation, word order, matching pairs and audio dictation
  • Vocabulary: spaced-repetition flashcards that bring each word back just before you forget it
  • Listening: AI-generated short stories and dialogues with multiple-choice comprehension questions
  • Lessons: a structured CEFR curriculum from A1 to C2, roughly 190 lessons per language, free for everyone with no daily limit

A Coach ties the modes together. It tracks strengths and weaknesses per grammar topic across every session, then builds each day's plan from your real mistakes and lays it out as a short route across a map of islands, a few steps long, ending on a daily treasure. You can also chat with the tutor in writing at any time to ask about a rule or get a sentence translated. A weekly leaderboard and streaks handle the rest of the motivation.

The interface is available in all 13 languages the app teaches, so learners are not forced to study through English. No account is required to start, and there are no ads.

Pricing is freemium. The free tier includes every lesson from A1 to C2, unlimited flashcard reviews and two practice sessions a day. Premium unlocks voice conversation, unlimited practice, eight tutor voices and detailed statistics, at 8.99 USD per month or 59.99 USD per year, with a 7-day free trial.
