MTL Explorer is definitely interesting, and I like the idea of keeping such a detailed GPS history under my own control. But I’m still wondering how much practical value I’d get from this level of detail — thousands of tracks, heatmaps, segments, 3D replays, photos, and statistics. For serious athletes or people who love analyzing their travel history it could be great, but for everyday use it might be more information than I actually need.

What is MTL Explorer?

MTL Explorer is a self-hosted archive for recorded GPS activities. It imports GPX and many other GPS formats and displays your complete history on one searchable, filterable map. It is built for large archives with thousands of tracks and verylarge photo and video libraries.

Explore detailed graphs, statistics, heatmaps, custom segments, virtual races, 3D replays, and geotagged photos and videos. You can also import activities from Garmin Connect and plan routes with BRouter.

MTL Explorer runs with Docker and keeps your data on systems you control. It does not record activities or include social-network features.
