Mwmbl is a non-profit, ad-free, free-libre and free-lunch search engine with a focus on useability and speed. At the moment it is little more than an idea together with a proof of concept implementation of the web front-end and search technology on a small index.

Good design and pretty fast.
The foundations look excellent and I want MWMBL to succeed however, I'm giving 4/5 because it's unfortunately not daily driver ready.
Nonprofit, independent indexing contributed by the community; free and open source, fully private, community-driven, super fast with relevant results, and very minimal. Plans to run on renewable energies, quickly expanding its index, and wanting to compete with big search engines and indexes. Also, the devs seem like nice people! On paper, this is a project to use and support en masse! I'll test it further. :)
Recently knew it through Lemmy and saw it working.
It has a little index by now but works pretty well and its web interface supports a wide range of web browsers.
The community including developers and contributors is very kind and helps and accepts suggestions and discussions about topics easily.
You can easily contribute to the index using its Firefox extension and is being developed to allow community-curated results.
