What is NanoTorrent?

NanoTorrent is a small, fast BitTorrent client for Windows, macOS and Linux, written entirely in Rust: a port of PicoTorrent, the deliberately minimal Windows client, rebuilt without a single C++ dependency and carried to all three platforms. No bundled player, no ads, no telemetry, no account and no paid tier.

The window is drawn with Slint and follows your system's light or dark theme. The torrent list has sixteen sortable columns and a full context menu; the details panel adds a folding file tree with per-file priorities, a peer list with GeoIP flags, and editable announce tiers. The engine is a vendored, patched librqbit: v1, v2 and hybrid torrents, with v2-only torrents and magnets both downloading and seeding, plus DHT, peer exchange, local discovery, uTP, web seeds and MSE/PE encryption.

A built-in HTTPS web interface ships in every copy, with Argon2id hashing, a brute-force lockout and server-sent events rather than polling. It carries the desktop's toolbar, charts, file trees and every preference, and will stream a file to a media player while it is still downloading. With no window compiled in it becomes a headless seedbox, and every preference is settable from the command line.

Optional Rhai plugins declare what they may reach on their first line, and the host grants only what was approved, across eleven permissions. They are off by default; an RSS auto-downloader and a media-player launcher ship as examples.

Also included: share limits and scheduling, queue ordering, tags and labels, watched and incomplete folders, torrent creation, blocklists, a low-disk guard, an optionally encrypted settings database, and a strict network mode that pauses rather than leak around a VPN or proxy. First run imports an existing PicoTorrent setup. Free software under the MIT licence, as a Windows installer, macOS disk image, .deb, .rpm, AppImage and on the Microsoft Store, with reproducible byte-identical builds.
