What is Netmute?

FULL DESCRIPTION NetMute is a per-app firewall and network monitor for macOS that lives in the menu bar.

It groups every network connection by app, shows how much data each app sends and receives, and names the services behind the destinations using its built-in tracker database. From there you can block a single destination, block known trackers with Tracker Shield, or take an app offline entirely.

  • Domain blocks for individual addresses
  • Live activity view: which app, which server, which rule, as it happens
  • Reports: traffic per app and the countries your apps connect to, with CSV export
  • App X-Ray with a privacy score for each app
  • Profiles, schedules and rules that switch per Wi-Fi network
  • Data limits per app, per network or for the whole Mac: warn or block at the threshold

Connection history is analysed and stored on your Mac. No account is required and there is no telemetry. Optional online features (public blocklists, encrypted DNS, community tracker reports) are documented in the privacy policy.

NetMute is free to download. NetMute Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and unlocks the full Tracker Shield, App X-Ray, report history, data limits, profiles, schedules and network automation. Available in the Mac App Store and directly from netmute.com.
