I really like the community-driven approach here. The idea of having a large, open database that people can actually contribute to makes it much more useful than a simple product-scanning app. The recent improvements to OCR and the wider category support are especially interesting.

Free, open-source, no ads, large database.
I really like the community-driven approach here. The idea of having a large, open database that people can actually contribute to makes it much more useful than a simple product-scanning app. The recent improvements to OCR and the wider category support are especially interesting.
A great tool for consumers, probably the closest equivalent to Yuka, but open-source and no longer limited to food and ingredients. Prices can also be added, and non-food categories have recently been better integrated. Sometimes the submission of changes freezes, and you’re not quite sure whether to wait or do something else in the meantime… At that point, the best thing to do is to scan the barcode again and use the website rather than the app.
The purpose of this app is noble... But, ease of using it is simply very bad... The user experience needs serious improvements... Adding a product to the database is also time consuming and confusing, literally, you've to use all of brainpower for it... Uploaded photos gets to very low resolution and blurry... Scaning nutrition chart from round bottles when updating information doesn't work as it should support panorama mode or similar... Also, manually adding nutrients values one by one takes a lot of time and is not user-friendly in my opinion... Simply, can't be used in most cases, as most products are missing from database...
There have been clear improvements over the last two years, particularly in terms of how easy it is to contribute. That said, taking five minutes to fill in a nutrition fact sheet isn’t really something that bothers me. A good tool like this, which is worth its salt, needs all this information. This is a community-driven service, just like OpenStreetMaps or OpenLibrary. You’re free not to contribute if you find it a bother. And according to my latest tests, OCR recognition on curved shapes has also been greatly improved :)
This app does not track anything on itself, but the barcode database is made available for other nutrition tracking apps, e.g. OpenNutriTracker.
Very good, quite complete.
However, the additives are not coloured (green, red, orange, yellow...) according to their degree of harmfulness... As a result, visibility is not obvious...
