PCAP Surgery information
What is PCAP Surgery?
PCAP Surgery helps network engineers, security teams, support teams, and protocol developers turn large or sensitive packet captures into smaller, safer handoff files. It focuses on visual inspection, trimming, packet removal, redaction, timestamp work, checksum repair, annotations, and export planning for existing captures.
Use it when a vendor needs a reproducible capture but the original file contains unrelated traffic, private addresses, secrets, customer data, or too much noise. The workflow keeps packet context visible while preparing a clean evidence file that can be attached to tickets, shared with support, or used as a regression fixture.
It is not a live sniffer, IDS, VPN, firewall, or traffic generator. It complements tools like Wireshark by focusing on safe handoff and edited capture output.
