What is PGSRip?

PGSRip is a command line tool that allows you to extract and convert PGS subtitles into SRT format. This tool requires MKVToolNix and tesseract-ocr and tessdata.

It extracts pixel-based subtitles from video (e.g. a BluRay or DVD export) and converts them to simple text-based subrip (.srt) files, which save storage space and work better in modern players like MPV or VLC, allowing user customization.

Text-based subtitles are also better for accessibility, as they can be read by screenreaders.
