What is PluginView?

PluginView is a hosted website-technology detection service. A user submits a public URL, and the service compares signals from the page against a proprietary fingerprint database to identify technologies such as ecommerce platforms, analytics tools, payment systems, chat widgets, content-management systems, and JavaScript libraries.

The service states that it reads public signals including response headers, cookie names, script sources, metadata and markup, and visible attribution text. Results include detected technologies, confidence information, and an explanation of the matched signal. PluginView also provides category browsing, bulk scanning, an API, scan history, and technographic-prospecting features. Its Terms of Use prohibit bypassing authentication, CAPTCHAs, or access controls, scanning private networks or cloud metadata endpoints, and abusive high-volume scanning.

PluginView is delivered as a hosted web service. The detector and fingerprint rules are proprietary, and the service does not claim that a match proves a sitewide installation, active contract, or exclusive use of a technology.
