shizumu

a local-first writing app where every page starts empty: nothing to structure first, nowhere to file it, so the first sentence is the first thing that happens.

the page: a fixed column, the day's focus in the header, and nothing to decide before the first sentence.

What is shizumu?

shizumu is a local-first writing app where every page starts empty. nothing to structure first, nowhere to file it, so the first sentence is the first thing that happens.

three primitives. the page is where you write. a pin is what you keep. a trail is a project you come back to: a book, a job search, anything that continues past today.

choose a trail and the page picks up its context, the pins you already kept there, already on the page. your thinking happens on the page, and the pins are where you left it. everything else lives in memory: full-text search, or open one trail, one date, its pages, or its pins.

it is keyboard driven, with real tools on the page. slash for a block, at-sign to reach a page, a pin, or a trail, mod+K for the trail index and command palette, mod+P to pin from the cursor. blocks include tables, charts, tasks, decisions and evidence.

it will not write for you, because the writing is the thinking.

everything is local by default. sync is optional and end-to-end encrypted: content is sealed on the device before it leaves, keys never leave your devices, and the relay holds what it cannot read. the relay is agpl and self-hostable if you would rather not use the hosted one.

free and open source, apache-2.0, for linux, windows and android.
