What is The Gold Barometer?

The Gold Barometer publishes one number every day: a 0-100 score of gold buying conditions for the US market, read after the close of each trading day. The score compares seven measured things (cash yield after inflation, entry price, central-bank buying, the US dollar, trader positioning, price jumpiness and retail premiums) with their own recorded past, back to January 1971 where the record reaches that far.

The method is published in full, including where it has been wrong. Every reading is archived publicly the day it publishes and is never quietly revised. The data is free to reuse under CC BY 4.0, with a free JSON API (no key), an embeddable widget for any site, and mirrors on Hugging Face and Kaggle.

It measures conditions. It is not advice, and it does not predict the price.
