    This was a really nice surprise, especially these days: download the app with no email and no registration, launch it, and you’re up and running in about a minute.

    The interface is very conservative, but everything is right where you expect it to be - and everything just works. Files send properly, messages arrive.

    I’ve already tried it at home and in a coworking space (in the coworking space we even shared large files with colleagues using a mobile hotspot from a phone in my jacket...

The interface is very conservative, but everything is right where you expect it to be - and everything just works. Files send properly, messages arrive.

I’ve already tried it at home and in a coworking space (in the coworking space we even shared large files with colleagues using a mobile hotspot from a phone in my jacket pocket!). At home, it’s super convenient to call family members from the upstairs floor for lunch using voice messages (AutoPlay enabled - that feature is 🔥).

Overall, very solid.

What is TreeTalk Node?

TreeTalk Node is a local-first file sharing and messaging app for Windows and Android. Devices discover each other on the same reachable LAN, Wi-Fi, phone hotspot, or user-configured VPN and exchange files, text messages, and voice messages directly between peers.

Key Features:

Direct Device-to-Device Transfer: Files move between selected devices without being uploaded to TreeTalk cloud storage or routed through a TreeTalk content server.

Android + Windows: Transfer files and communicate between Android phones, tablets, workpads, and Windows PCs on the same reachable network.

Share Directly from Android: Select photos, videos, or other files in the Android Gallery or file manager, tap Share, choose TreeTalk Node, and send them to a nearby device.

Automatic Peer Discovery: Nearby TreeTalk Node devices are discovered automatically across reachable LAN, Wi-Fi, phone hotspot, or VPN connections.

File Transfer up to 55 GB: Pro editions support individual files up to 55 GB, subject to platform, device, and network conditions. Free editions support smaller transfers with platform-specific limits.

Text and Voice Messaging: Private and group text messaging plus PTT-style recorded voice messages are available alongside file transfer.

Group Communication: Send messages and files to individual peers or groups instead of treating file transfer as a strictly one-device-to-one-device workflow.

Privacy by Architecture: No TreeTalk account or signup is required for ordinary local communication. TreeTalk Node includes no advertising, analytics, or tracking in the Android app, and ordinary local use does not require an Internet connection.

Optional Encryption: Content encryption is available for sensitive local communication. On Android, encryption keys remain on the device and are not broadcast over the network.

Windows Portable Version: The direct-download Windows edition can run as a portable executable on Windows 7 SP1 and newer. A Windows 10/11 version is also available through Microsoft Store.

Android Free and Pro: Both editions are available on Google Play. Free remains usable for ordinary text messaging and single-file transfers, while Pro removes limits intended for heavier workflows such as larger files, multi-file sending, and regular voice-message use.

TreeTalk Node is designed for situations where sending a file to a device a few metres away should not require uploading it to an external cloud first. It can be used at home for sharing photos and videos, in offices for local collaboration, or on temporary networks and phone hotspots where Internet access is unavailable or unnecessary.
